Photogrametry could be described as pointillist. It is a method of capturing upwards of 70 photographs of an object and compiling them with the aid of specific apllications. There are many programs that can achieve very fine results; agisoft, meshroom, meshlab. Some of these applications allow for short trials, I chose to try Agisoft.
Each part of the process can become drawn out easily and using a hand held camera was not an advantage. processing image into a point cloud can take hours, which needs to be followed up with alot of editing.
Some of the results for models I discovered when researching the viability of using photogrametry were seducing. The meshes and textures could achieve massively detailed and beautiful studies of objects and ruins.
After spending many hours researching the method, photographing interesting trees and processing the images, my own results left a lot to be desired.
I felt that it would be worth while changing my approach and looking for other methods to create the asset meshes and textures.
